It is a well known fact that Mac OS X is a comfortable and elegant operating system, but it is also known that it can't be installed on a PC. If you don't want to spend a huge amount of money on a Mac, just because it looks better, then you can make your Windows operating system look like Mac OS X. OS X Mavericks UX Pack was created specifically for this purpose. It can modify the Windows theme from the ground up, by adding a dock, a menu bar and other elements, which can make you feel like you are working on a Mac OS X Mavericks.

It takes about two minutes to install OS X Mavericks UX Pack on a Windows-powered computer. Running the setup file will display a compact menu, on which you can make a few basic configurations, like selecting a system font, enabling the icons dock or the Launchpad and others. When you are done with your selections, you must click an install button and wait until all the changes are complete. If you wish to return to the original Windows theme, you only need to run the setup file again and click the Uninstall button.

Once installed, OS X Mavericks UX Pack will make your operating system look like Mac OS X as much as possible. If you make the appropriate selection before installing the package, the taskbar will be replaced with an icons dock, which looks and behaves just like in Mac OS X. It contains the same default icons, for opening the Finder, the system preferences, accessing installed applications and so on. Also, if you click the Documents icon, on the same dock, its contents will be displayed above the icon, along with an option for opening the folder.

Another Mac OS X feature is the fact that the close, minimize and maximize buttons are displayed as colored orbs, on the left side of your windows, instead of the right side. Furthermore, OS X Mavericks UX Pack will place a menu bar on the upper edge of the screen, but due to the basic differences between the two operating systems, the menu bar contains quick-launch icons, instead of actual menus. It also displays a small Start button, instead of an Apple icon. In other words, the menu bar is a shrinked version of the task bar. The Launchpad is another interesting addition, from Mac OS X. It displays commonly used programs and functions as icons, directly on your desktop and you can add your own shortcuts to the list. Besides clicking its dock icon, you can also open the Launchpad by simply double clicking anywhere on your desktop.

Although all windows have different shapes and colors, under OS X Mavericks UX Pack and the icons are completely different, the operating system's core functionality will remain the same. The System Preferences icon, which you would find in OS X, will open the Windows Control Panel. Even if the browser icon says "Opera", it will still launch your default web browser, regardless if it's Opera, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Also, right clicking on icons or empty spaces will display the same context menu which you are used to in Windows.

Pros

You can make your Windows operating system look and feel like Mac OS X. Also, the original Windows theme can be restored just as fast, if you wish to go back. The theme can be installed quickly, without any effort. OS X Mavericks UX Pack lets you decide what OS X features to install.

Cons

Google Chrome windows may not behave normally if you place the close, minimize and maximize buttons on the left side. Also, there are still various OS X features that are not included, but this is due to the difference between the two operating systems, not to design oversights. With OS X Mavericks UX Pack, you can enjoy the modern and elegant design of Mac OS X and the flexible functionality of Windows at the same time.
